Student Life Weekend Primer (Spring, Week 1)

So… not much has changed since the first Student Life Weekend Primer. We’re all still stuck inside, and we can’t get together on-campus. But there’s still plenty of things to do, even over the weekend! Check out our top picks for things to do this Saturday and Sunday:

Fill out the Census

The 2020 Census is open! The Census is a once-in-a-decade opportunity to let your Representatives know what your community needs (and Oregon may be delegated a sixth Congressional seat from this year’s results), and it’s completely online for the first time. Fill out your form today, it takes less than 10 minutes!

Peruse an Art Gallery

Art is a powerful thing. So powerful, even a pandemic can’t stop it! This weekend, take a mindful stroll in your pj’s through the Pittock Mansion’s Mt. Hood Perspectives show or the Portland Art Museum’s Volcano! Mt. St. Helens in Art exhibit, available completely online now.

See a Drive-In Movie

One of the things I miss the most from our pre-quarantine lives was going to the movies. Now, due to social distancing measures, Drive-In/drive-up movies are taking off again! For some fun, and a scenic road trip, check out the Historic Sunshine Mill in The Dalles, offering movies and pizza from the comfort of your car. Order now, tickets go fast!

Write (or read) poetry for NaPoWriMo

April is National Poetry Writing Month, the fun lyrical sister of National Novel Writing Month. The goal? Write one poem each day, for a total of 30 poems at the end! If that seems daunting, join me for a Poetry Writing Workshop next Wednesday at 3 p.m. on the Teams Channel, all skill levels welcome! And if you’re not already poetically-inclined, check out this article on poetry in ICUs. Very powerful stuff.

Have a great, safe, and restful weekend! And keep an eye out for that silly Easter Beagle 🙂
